Someone responsible for operation and upkeep
Provisioning a server starts the operational work. Updates, access, certificates, backups and troubleshooting follow. Management is defined around what runs on the server and what it needs.
Environments with Paymentery or another provider can be assessed. You do not have to move hosting to request management.
What an agreement can cover
Access and permissions
Review access accounts, login methods and the permissions needed for the work, keeping you in control of granting and revoking access.
Updates and security configuration
Maintain system and service versions, review internet exposure and configuration, and account for application compatibility.
Certificates and web services
Look after HTTPS configuration and the services the website or application depends on.
Backups and recovery
Define what is backed up, where, how often and for how long, with restore testing when included in the agreement.
Monitoring
Identify services and indicators to watch, alert thresholds and the response arrangements.
Incidents and changes
Investigate problems, identify the appropriate action and explain what changed and what needs follow-up. Response expectations and emergency arrangements are agreed in advance.
Taking on an existing environment
I begin by reviewing services, versions, dependencies and available backups. You receive a description of the setup, risks and proposed steps before changes are made.
Missing documentation does not prevent an initial assessment. It may affect timing and what can be established before the required components can be accessed.
Moving a website or application
- Review the source, destination and each application's requirements.
- Copy files and data and prepare the new environment.
- Check logins, forms, media and the agreed functions.
- Arrange the final data synchronisation or an appropriate cutover window, then switch operation.
- Monitor the result and retain a suitable return path for the agreed period.
Potential interruption and new writes to live data are discussed before migration. A zero-downtime promise is not made without understanding the system and its use.
What the agreement defines
Coverage, monitoring frequency, response hours, backups, retention, restore testing and costs. New application features are development work and are included only when explicitly scoped.
A problem may stem from insufficient resources or an application constraint. Investigation determines whether configuration, development or a change of environment is appropriate.

Describe what runs and what needs attention
Send the application type or link, the issue and any relevant deadline. Appropriate assessment access is arranged after agreeing why it is needed.
