Finlynq: operating an existing app with a recovery path
Finlynq is an open-source personal-finance application. Its upstream version was used without source modifications; Paymentery’s contribution is deployment and operation.
The operating requirement
Self-hosting requires an application, database and access setup, followed by arrangements for backups, recovery and maintenance. Control of the environment also means responsibility for running it.
What was done?
The application was deployed on an environment managed by Paymentery, with HTTPS and a database configured not to be directly exposed to the internet. The work included daily backups and a restore exercise comparing recovered data with the original.
That exercise demonstrates a specific operational check; it is not a guarantee that every future recovery will succeed without reviewing the backups and environment.
What belongs to Finlynq?
The interface, financial features, imports, calculations, reports and available integrations are developed by the upstream project. They were not created as part of the Paymentery contribution described here.
Self-hosting alone also does not determine where data is processed when external services are connected. Those connections must be assessed against the actual configuration.
Result
A self-hosted deployment with access controls, backups and an exercised recovery path. The example shows how a requirement can be delivered by configuring and operating an existing application rather than developing another one.
The upstream project is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
