Yalmio: family lists, tasks, dates and files on one board
Project status: delivered from design to launch and submitted for review on the App Store and Google Play in October 2026. A mobile app for iOS and Android with a managed backend, Arabic-first with English, free, with no ads and no tracking.
The problem the app solves
Household matters end up scattered across chats, photos and notes: two people buy the same thing, renewal dates are missed, papers get lost, and there is no safe place for the Wi-Fi code or document numbers. What is needed is one place the household shares, each person in their own role, without anyone seeing what is not theirs.
What was built
Shared spaces with clear roles
Each home or trip gets a shared space with six roles: owner, manager, editor, doer, adder and viewer; restricted lists only the chosen people see; and invitations by email with a link that opens the app. Permissions are enforced on the server and in search, notifications and downloads, not just by hiding buttons.
Lists that know who's taking care of it
Shopping, task, trip-gear and home-inventory lists with "I'll take it" so nobody buys the same thing twice, comments, assignment, Important and Urgent flags, and a Today screen with what needs you now. Smart add understands "milk 2 L tomorrow" on the device itself, with no AI.
Dates, reminders and files
Repeating appointments, on-time reminders and a calendar; files and folders with expiry dates and reminders, fine-grained sharing with view-without-download, versions, trash and full export. The app works offline and syncs when back online, with no duplicates and nothing lost.
Privacy: people choose where their data lives
"My Vault" holds notes and codes encrypted on the phone before they are saved (AES-256-GCM), with secret values hidden until tapped. "Storage places" allows any mix of the phone, the Yalmio server and the user's own Google Drive, with optional Drive backup using the drive.file scope only. Account deletion is complete, from the app and the web.
Engineering
One app and a managed backend
One Flutter app for iOS and Android with a "home board" identity (sticky notes and magnets) in Readex Pro, a Laravel and PostgreSQL backend on a managed server, sign-in through Firebase with Apple and Google, FCM sharing notifications that re-check the recipient's access at send time, and branded Arabic and English email.
Tests and an independent pre-launch review
More than 210 server tests and 109 app tests, then an independent end-to-end review of every role and feature before launch that found 17 issues, two of them critical data leaks; all were fixed, each with a test that proves it.
Delivery stages
- Product blueprint, glossary, roles, permissions and acceptance criteria.
- Design system and an interactive preview of the journeys, then sign-off.
- Architecture, server and offline sync, then the app feature by feature with tests.
- Notifications, Drive backup, My Vault and storage places.
- The independent review and its fixes, branded email, and a review account with sample content.
- Store materials and privacy answers, and submission to the App Store and Google Play.
Outcome
A complete iOS and Android app with its server: a household shares lists, dates and files, each in their own role, while what is personal stays encrypted in the place its owner chooses.
